Week 3, Guatemala CCM

Image
Elder Walbom had a bit of fun this week, when the missionaries at the CCM all got to go to the Guatemala Zoo and then to Wendy's on their P-day! These pics were sent in an email from one of his teachers, Hermana Rosado (his favorite teacher at the CCM!) He mentioned on our video chat that Guatemala is called the land of eternal Spring and that there are beautiful flowers everywhere.  He also said that the missionaries were all warned to always be very careful of live electrical wires, which can be jumbled, loose messes anywhere (not buried or securely placed high on poles) and have killed people! There were some wires they had to carefully avoid on their trip to the zoo.  Now that his mission has changed to include just Guatemala City, I am not really worried about him coming down with Malaria (the elevation of the city is high enough to not really be a risk). I am, however, praying he can walk safely down the streets! Group email: Hey everyone! There is apparent...

Week 2, Guatemala CCM (Missionary Training Center)

YAY!!! We were all able to conference call with Elder Walbom on a video chat using Google Hangouts this week!!! We were very happy to be able to see and speak with one another this week (last week was such a disappointment).  Elder Walbom did not, however, have time to write a group email (their time on P-day to correspond is very limited because there are so many missionaries in the CCM that need to use the few computers to write emails or video chat).  I will share some of the things he talked about during our conversation. Apparently there were some very big changes to the missions in Guatemala this week!!  A new 6th mission was created and his mission lost over 100 missionaries to the new mission and no longer goes down to the Pacific coast.  In fact, it pretty much just covers Guatemala City and is now called just GUATEMALA CITY MISSION (not South).  One very positive note to this change is that the city is more modern than the remote towns, so there...

Week 1, Guatemala MTC

Image
Elder Alex Walbom left for the Guatemala MTC on July 9, and will be gone for 2 years.  We know he will be a great missionary! Here are pics from the airport and his first email, below: We received this text and picture a few hour later, which was sweet of them: "Hey we are members from Utah on the same flight as your son! [from Atlanta to L.A.] We just wanted to let you know he's doing good!" Elder Walbom's email week #1:  "Sorry there aren`t pictures this week I haven`t been able to take them. We are only allowed to take them on P days and this is my first one and my computer time is in the morning. Also I will not be typing with contractions because this keyboard is spanish and does not have a user friendly way to do that.  Anyways it}s been a pretty stressful first week. Big adjustments, new places, new people. Yep its been hard and there have been times where I have been absolutely homesick but those moments never last. I jus...
