Week 37, Primero de Julio - Coronavirus changes everything

The President of Guatemala called for a nationwide day of prayer and fasting!  Not only did the missionaries join in this national day of prayer and fasting for Guatemala, many of their families at home (including Elder Walbom's family) joined the citizens of Guatemala in asking for God's help at this time. Guatemala City With Elder Walbom and all the other missionaries in Guatemala being quarantined in their apartments due to a mandatory shut down to prevent the spread of the coronavirus disease, they were not able to contact their families (normally they video chat via Hangouts) this past week.  Instead, their families were sent an email explaining the situation in which we were given our missionaries' direct apartment phone number.  We were told we could call them a couple of times each week during this quarantine.  Unfortunately, Elder Walbom does not have access to a the internet at all in his apartment, so he couldn't send an email himself, ...

Week 36, Primero de Julio - Quarantine for Guatemala

We weren't able to hear from Elder Walbom this week, but we did receive this email from his Mission President on March 17, 2020: Dear parents and families, Once more we send you an update of our situation here in the Guatemala City Mission. Last night in a broadcast to the nation President Giammattei, President of Guatemala mandated a 15-day quarantine. Of course, our highest priority is the safety and good health of your sons and daughters. Beginning today our mission has begun following this quarantine. Our missionaries have finished their purchases of supplies from the lists they received last week. This afternoon they all are home in their apartments with what they need to sustain them until the quarantine is lifted at midnight on March 31st. This is an interesting time for our mission. Week 35, Primero de Julio - I'm Still Here

So Changes came and went and I will be hunkering down in Primero de Julio for one more change. I will definitely be changed in six weeks. My companion didn't change either. But all of that is fine because I love my area, I love the members who are all so helpful, and I love my companion and my district. Plus time flies when you stay in one area for so long. But I am so excited to be able to help these people for another six weeks. #6months This week, we saw a miracle. We were really trying hard to find new people to teach but they just were not forthcoming. So we felt the impression to knock on a yellow door, and we did. Well no one came out for like 3 minutes and then this guy passed by on the other side of the street and said that he lived there and he would be back in a second. So we waited for like 5 minutes and then he came back. He let us in and invited us in without us saying anything at all. Needless to say, it was a much nicer reception than we were used...
