Week 11, Pueblo Nuevo Viñas- Choir and Otras Cosas

Image
"Super curious and sciency kid named Dusty! He's awesome and hopefully I'll have a reason to tell you guys more about him and his family next week!"   Elder Alex Walbom's weekly email:   Okay everyone so this week was something. Highlights of this week. 1. I began to have my choir. 8 people showed up! That was super great. It was going well but then I realized that I grossly overestimated the capabilities of the people here. I was floundering around bc I didn't know how to help people sing who literally had zero musical background and couldn't even read music. It was a small disaster but hopefully this weeks rehearsal will be better. 2. We had an activity where we watched the first Book of Mormon episode and so many people came to that. Less actives and nonmembers came so we're doing that every week now. Success. 3. Sunday we had the best attendance in our branch and the most spiritual sacrament meeting. We had so ma...

Week 10, Pueblo Nuevo Viñas - LOTS of RAIN!

Elder Walbom was super happy to eat at Krispy Kreme when they went to Guatemala City.   He told us that he has also discovered  "Pain Dulce" or sweet bread, which he now buys daily.   Part-member family the missionaries are teaching The kids were excited to show off their new puppy Elder Alex Walbom said that he had a really good week.  Here is his email: "This past week was great! First, It absolutely dumped rain on Thursday. My companion who has been here for 14 months said it was the most rain he had ever seen at once here. We were driven inside this unfinished house where we contacted these two men who were very receptive. I guess the Lord works in mysterious ways. We had various birthday parties this week for missionaries and those were fun. We also had Independence Day in Guatemala! Because of that we had the worst church attendance ever. However I believe that we are still making progress and this next Sunday will be...

Week 9, Pueblo Nuevo Viñas

Elder Walbom says his Spanish is coming along pretty well, and he seems to be in good spirits. He really enjoys teaching the weekly English class, and they usually get quite a few people to come. Here is Elder Walbom’s weekly letter: Our new cook, Cecilia is amazing. She always makes sure we are fed and full and she is always laughing and joking with us. She has a mission to make sure that I learn spanish fast and never speak English again...Well I can live with that for at least two years. This week has been a week of joy, sickness, and some realizations. I'll start with sickness. 4 out of the 5 missionaries in Pueblo have been sick this week. There are two companionships in Pueblo and the other one had to stay in their house one day due to their sicknesses. Theirs was due to some bad food, probably the sketchy fried chicken. They also ate some rank lettuce that we were fed. I refused to eat it- it wasn't a situation where it was necessar...
