Week 10, Pueblo Nuevo Viñas - LOTS of RAIN!

Elder Walbom was super happy to eat at Krispy Kreme when they went to Guatemala City.  He told us that he has also discovered "Pain Dulce" or sweet bread, which he now buys daily.

The kids were excited to show off their new puppy

Elder Alex Walbom said that he had a really good week. Here is his email:

"This past week was great!
First, It absolutely dumped rain on Thursday. My companion who has been here for 14 months said it was the most rain he had ever seen at once here. We were driven inside this unfinished house where we contacted these two men who were very receptive. I guess the Lord works in mysterious ways.
We had various birthday parties this week for missionaries and those were fun.
We also had Independence Day in Guatemala! Because of that we had the worst church attendance ever. However I believe that we are still making progress and this next Sunday will be better.
I had good food this week and starved some nights. I had good lessons and bad lessons but through all I have the hope that I will be able to do this.
Highlight of the week was the Temple! I know that it is the Lord's house and his spirit is so strong there. I was reinvigorated and reinforced.
Also I have permission from my mission president to begin a choir in Pueblo (my town). So that is really scary but I have faith I can do it.
Until next week!
Elder Walbom"

Here are some pics he sent of the downpour!  Elder Walbom took some really great rain boots with him, but, when I asked if he wore them that day he said he totally forgot and just wore his normal shoes (which were thankfully treated with waterproofing oil).  It rains every day, and they thought the rain would let up, but it didn't.

Streets turned into rushing rivers!

 Birthday Celebrations

They celebrated 2 Elders' birthdays with a missionary piñata.

The missionaries performed service cutting corn (and weeds) with machetes.
