Week 59, Colby - Things Are Looking Up

Image
Hey everyone sorry for the late update! This past week was good. We have not necessarily had more success but we have had more motivation and hope in our hearts as we do the work.    We are trying new ways to get members involved in helping us do the work through Facebook. We have them film their testimonies, share posts, like our page, etc... We are hoping to see more results from this method.   We are finally starting to see young people in the branch in Colby as the college here starts up. It is very refreshing to work with young people who are usually better at social media and all that. Don't get me wrong, we love the elderly members here but sometimes you need a breath of fresh air.   Another noteworthy event is the smoke that is in the sky here due to the fires in California. It's hazy and makes the sun orange.   We also went to play volleyball and board games as a district and that was so fun!   Other than all that there's not much to report on. ...

Week 58, Colby - A Good Week

Image
Well there is not much to say about this week. It went by fast and we didn't have much success in teaching. I was able to teach my grandma and that was nice. We were also able to teach people in Guatemala. We have had little success with finding people in Colby but I think it just takes time and faith. The members need to get used to helping us a little more than they used to and we all need to exercise faith. I don't know why it's so difficult here right now, but the Lord does and he has a purpose so I think all there is to do is continue forward with faith. Oh yeah, we also went to this giant easel in Goodland Kansas for P-day. We also had some cool storms this week. Adios!

Week 57, Colby - Tortilla "Coffee" and Stuff

Image
Tortilla "Coffee" from Guatemala Hello!  So this past week was good. We had a good amount of lessons with church members and were able to get some people motivated to help do missionary work! My companion started teaching me how to do some wushu stretching routine and I have to say it really does stretch your legs. We had some good thunderstorms too. Another pretty standard week in Kansas. On P-day we went to the Nebraska border with Kansas and also to a fossil and history museum south of where we live. Those were pretty interesting too. So I know it doesn't seem like much is happening in the work right now but I trust the Lord that it will work out. Our mission is starting to see the fruits of our social media efforts as more people see our pages and begin to be taught by missionaries. We just have to trust that the Lord knows best especially when we don't see a rhyme or reason for what we are doing. I also made tortilla coffee this week! It's a Guatemalan thing ...

Week 56, Colby - The Haircut Miracle

Image
(Looks more like Southern Utah, but these Kansas cliffs are made out of chalk!) So this week not much was different, except we had some in person contact with someone! So Friday afternoon President called us and told my companion he needed to get a haircut that same afternoon. We were scrambling to find a place to get him a haircut because he did not want us to have to take scissors to his hair. Anyways we called and looked at every single place near Colby on google maps and they were either closed or booked through the afternoon. So we finally called our last option, a tiny haircutting place in Oakley, a town about 25 miles away, and they actually were open and had room for two appointments at 2:30 (Elder Leder also needed a haircut).  So we went to the only place open and not booked in all of northwestern Kansas. As our companions were getting haircuts, Elder Peterson and I started talking to this guy who had come in after us. He asked us who we were and all that and we started t...

Week 55, Colby - Spiritual Growth

Image
Hey everyone. This week was good.  In spite of all the unfortunate things that have happened to me and to others because of Corona, I still see the hand of the Lord in it. I can see how he is using it to further his work on Earth and to remind us what matters during our time on Earth. I have grown a lot spiritually during my time in Kansas and learned things that otherwise I would not have learned. Let's all strive to draw closer to the spirit so that we can survive in the times to come. I don't have much to report except there are lots of sweet members who feed us randomly throughout the weeks. We are trying to learn to use facebook better to find people to teach. Nothing much beside that to report. Top pic " That's my companion (Elder Smith) and me." Bottom pic: " I got the mantis picture in the garden we did some service in."
