Week 4, Guatemala CCM
Elder Walbom seemed in good spirits today-- maybe because he only has 2 weeks left at the CCM and he can't wait to get out in the field and teach the people of Guatemala City. Also, his time to call home changed from 10AM to 3PM. This morning we were a bit sad because we hadn't heard from him, but it really turned out for the best because his siblings, Ethan and Rachel, started high school today and wouldn't have been able to talk to him this week if he had called at 10AM. Since they got out of school at 3:25PM they got to speak with him until 4PM. Yay for little blessings!
Here is the weekly email from Elder Alex Walbom:
"Okay weekly recap!
Tuesday Night: There were some small earthquakes in El Salvador. So the building we are in is super sensitive to earthquakes and so in the middle of the night the fire alarms went off three times! We went down to the first floor and outside the first time and just tried to sleep through the next two that night.
Wednesday: The new kids came and experienced the dreaded red-eye special (flying in from Los Angeles all night) but it wasnt as fun for us to witness because we were super tired too! Not fair.
Thursday: I miss the old Latinos (they only stay in for 3 weeks and we stay for 6) but the new ones are okay and so are the new gringos.
Friday- Now: Im not good at 3 on 3 basketball but its super fun at the CCM! We just have a good time and have fun. Fast Sunday was super spiritual and I got to bear my testimony in Spanish. I feel like Im really getting this language and its coming fast. I thank my Heavenly Father for that. My Spanish actually makes sense and Ive found myself reverting to Spanish occasionally when Im supposed to speak in English!
Of course I want to receive the gift of tongues and speak to these people in Spanish, but I have gained a testimony that the most important gift I can receive from God is that of Charity. Because all the spanish in the world wont matter if you dont love those people you teach. I want to love them so much that they cant help but listen to me! I have a testimony that truly charity is the greatest of all. En el nombre de Jesucristo Amén."
