Week 26, Primero de Julio - Prayer is the Soul's Sincere Desire
Here is Elder Walbom’s weekly email:
Okay
caballeros y damas,
Get ready for this short email
Not much happened this week different or weird but we did have
good experiences with prayer.
First we were walking and found one lady who we have been trying
to be able to teach standing on the side of the road on her telephone and
pacing around in an upset manner. We asked what was wrong and she told us that
her daughter was missing. Apparently she had gone out earlier to go with a
friend but never arrived at the house she was supposed to go to.
I suggested to pray but she just said that she had to keep
calling everyone she possibly knew that would know where her daughter was. I
suggested again after more minutes of fruitless calls and told her that prayer
could only help. She again rebuffed and kept trying to call to no avail.
Finally after she knew that she had exhausted all of her options I said that
prayer really does work and that we should pray right there on the side of the
road.
She reluctantly agreed and began to pour out her heart to
our Father. She pled for her daughter and her immediate return and that she
could be safe. Amen. Well, I kid you not, not a second had passed after
she uttered amen before her daughter came walking up behind is from around the
corner with a boy. She said hi and walked by her mom after introducing her
friend. I looked at the mother and said "I told you prayer works." I
could see the gratitude in her eyes and in that moment my testimony of prayer
grew as the spirit touched both of our hearts.
Another instance is that we prayed as a companionship to be able
to find just one person to teach after a hard week. We had one hour left in the
week and we needed at least one in our hearts. [Elder Walbom clarified that what
he meant was that in their hearts, he and his companion hoped to find another
person with whom they could share the gospel.] Well, it was given to us and it
was a good lesson.
I testify that heartfelt, faith-filled prayer is answered and
that our Father in Heaven is merciful to all of his children. Prayer is our
communication with the most powerful being in the universe. Yes, we can use him
for help but let's pour out our souls to him in every moment. Then our
confidence in him will grow and we will begin to see that he isn't some far
away being but rather our father whom we will grow to truly love as we strive
to follow him.
Adios
Elder Walbom
